Mohamed Zakaria Sadek (Zak) is a partner in the Assurance Services department.

Zak is instrumental in the development of trainees and professional staff within the firm. Having completed his articles at Grant Thornton, Johannesburg, Zak went on to become a manager in the audit division, before becoming the youngest partner in the firm at the age of 27 in 2006. From 2008 to 2011 Zak worked at Grant Thornton UAE, at partner level. He was responsible for audits of listed entities, setting up the training department for the UAE firm and was also a member of their policy board. In September 2011 he rejoined the Johannesburg office.

Zak has extensive experience in large audits of private companies as well as those listed on the JSE. His experience in large assignments both in the private and public sectors and his strong technical background, has led to his involvement in cross boarder assignments, the conversion from local GAAP to IFRS, as well as due diligence work.

Zak is a former member of the Accounting Standards Board (ASB) public sector forum and also served on the Auditor General’s ‘think tank’ strategy working group for contract work allocations.

Zak’s sector experience includes, financial services, mining, retail, manufacturing, investment and service.

Zak is a member of SAICA, IRBA and the Institute of Directors SA and speaks both Afrikaans and English.
