Michelle is a director in the IFRS Technical division of BDO. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2008, her Bachelor’s Honours degree in Accounting in 2009 and her Master’s degree in Taxation in 2012 from the North West University in South Africa. She completed Academic articles in 2010 at the Northwest University in South Africa. She completed her articles with PKF JHB in 2012 and qualified as a chartered accountant, CA(SA). Thereafter she worked in commerce for a year as a financial accountant and returned to Grant Thornton (now BDO) in 2014 as an audit manager. She did a 6-month secondment at Grant Thornton LLP in Dallas USA in 2016. She transferred to the technical department in May 2017 as a technical manager for accounting and auditing, whereafter she was promoted to senior manager for technical accounting in April 2018, associate director in April 2020 and director in September 2022.
She is actively involved in consulting with clients on IFRS application matters and provides regular training to clients and staff.
Over the past 12 years in the profession, 3 years audit manager and 5 years technical support role, she gained skills in IFRS interpretation, team support and client service. She is known for her ability to interpret and apply the IFRS standards in a practical way.
She is skilled in International Financial Reporting Standards, Companies Act and the JSE Listing Requirements. She has diverse experience gained through consulting to companies in various industries.
